Best and Worst Movies of 2013

Wow what a great year for movies this year has been. I had a hard time choosing my top 15 films but funny enough the opposite happened on my bottom 15. Keep in mind though, these list will be starting from 15-1 (well that's the purpose of a countdown isn't it). Another thing, I am not able to review all this titles but I am hoping to do so in the coming future, even if it's short ones. The ones highlighted are the ones I did a full review or at least a short review, so just click it to read it.

So, without further ado, here's my best and worst of 2013

Review: The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

Last year we were greeted with the first part of the new 'Hobbit' trilogy and that is The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, that film was met with mixed criticism but as for me, I loved every minute of it despite some of its problems. This year we have the second part which is The Desolation of Smaug, now this is one of my most anticipated films of this year. So is the second installment better or worse than the previous one? It's been a damn long time since I last posted in my blog, but here I am again to share my views on some movies that I have watched recently. This week though I wont only cover the movies that I watched this week but also most of the movies that I've watched in recent weeks, some are new and some are old. Review: Metro Manila

When I first saw the stills for this movie I was curious about it and also liking the look of it but upon watching the trailer of the film, I immediately got excited. Today, I finally watched the movie, the question is did the movie meet my expectations or was it a disappointment? Check my thoughts below and find out.

Review: The Grandmaster

I'm not the biggest fan of foreign films but whenever I watch one I always get engaged in it. Upon watching the trailer for Wong Kar Wai's The Grandmaster, I was immediately hooked on it and thought that I need to watch it ASAP. Review: Gravity

It's been 7 years since Alfonso Cuaron's latest outing with Children of Men. While I thought the film was very good and very well done, it just wasn't my cup of tea (I might have to rewatch it soon). Review: Elysium

Neil Blomkamp burst into the movie scene back in 2009 with his genre defining film, District 9. Personally, I loved that movie and it was one of the best films in that year. It was not only a great sci-fi film but also a film with an underlying message regarding the community nowadays. Now he's back with his latest project 'Elysium', can he still retain the flare that he had on D9 or will the movie be a let-down? Find out my thoughts below.

It's been a while since I posted my last "qweekly" reviews, if you still don't have any idea what a "qweekly" reviews is, it is where I post quick movie reviews, clever huh?? LOL. Well without further ado, here's my two cents on what I have watched this week and the past weeks.

Review: On The Job

On the Job (OTJ) is a local film directed by Erik Matti. Matti's last outing that I watched was Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles and while the film was entertaining and served as a good horror film in Philippine cinema, I can't help but feel a bit disappointed with the movie. I guess there's something that I want to see more in that movie. But is Matti's follow-up to Tiktik be as good or even better? Find out my thoughts below.

Review: A Serbian Film (Uncut)

I will not sugarcoat it on this one, this is by far the most grotesque, deranged, and traumatic film I have ever seen in terms of visuals. But will the story keep up with it's violence? Find out my reaction below.

Review: The Conjuring

So it's been a long time since my last review and I apologize for that, now I'm back again to say my two cents on certain movies.

In 2010 James Wan delivered what is probably one of the scariest horror films in recent memory, the film was called Insidious. I admit, it scared the crap out of me and I will say that it's now one of my favorite horror films ever. So, will James Wan be able to give out the chills and scares on Insidious? Review: The Wolverine

In the past decade, comic book movies has been a big part of films today but this is all a huge thanks to one of the franchises that originally started this trend, the X-Men franchise. Last 2009, the character of Wolverine had his first solo outing with X-Men Origins: Wolverine and that film did not only failed to reach expectation but also to be one bad film overall. So is the next outing for the ol' canuckclehead be better than his previous movie or will it still suck? Read on for my opinion below.

Review: Only God Forgives

Nicolas Winding Refn is slowly becoming one of the most famous directors these days and his latest film 'Drive' delivered all the goods in that movie and it is my personal favorite film back in 2011. Will his follow-up film be as good as 'Drive'. Find out my thoughts below.

Review: The Lone Ranger

Gore Verbinski and Johnny Depp started their partnership back in 2003 for Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl and that movie gave Johnny Depp his first Oscar nomination. In addition that movie was a whole lot of fun and the balance between the action and humor is very good. Then the sequels happened and the quality of the franchise is dwindling. So, is their latest offering be as good as the first 'Pirates' or is it bad? Read on for my thoughts below.

Review: G.I. Joe: Retaliation

In 2009 we were greeted with one of the biggest toy commercials (or to some a movie) on screen which was G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra. The film left me disappointed and bored to hell. Will this sequel still be the same or will it be good? Find out below.

Review: World War Z

World War Z is best known for being one of the most unfaithful adaptations of books, so I have not read the book yet and I won't be able to tell if it's a good adaptation or not. I will however judge it for what it was, a zombie flick. So is this zombie flick a game changer for this genre that is getting a tad tiresome? Find out below.

Sports drama is probably one of the most overused genre when it comes to feel-good movies. I have little to no knowledge about baseball, my only relation to the sport is softball (which I really enjoyed). Anyhow, is this movie another sports drama that is forgettable or not? Read on below.

Let me get this straight first, I am not the biggest Superman fan (but I still liked the character) I am more of a Batman fan. What piked my interest in this movie is the cast and crew involved, and over time my expectations got higher and higher, so, will this be the Superman film we've been waiting for or is another POS trash like Superman III and IV? Review: Warm Bodies

Jonathan Levine delivered one of the most hard hitting, gut-wrenching "dramedy" in 2011. The film had wonderful performances from the cast, peppered with an amazing soundtrack and cinematography. 50/50 is one of my favorite "dramedies" of all time. Review: Fast And Furious 6

The previous installments of this franchise (specifically 1,2, Tokyo Drift and 4) was all about racing, sure there's a plot but it wasn't really shown well, then part 5 happened and the franchise took a different turn, it now became a heist film instead of the usual racing. I hated and I loved this turn of the franchise, I hated it because in part 5, the racing competition aspect of the film is gone, it became chases but I also loved this turn because it made the franchise take a different approach. My question is, will this formula still work with part 6? Find out below.

Review: Maniac (2012)

Elijah Wood is one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood, he can play a pussy (as seen on The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy) and he can also play a sadistic bastard (as seen on Sin City). Will his latest film show off how talented he really is? Find out below.
