Review: Resident Evil: Retribution

A new Resident Evil movie(?) is in  our midst. Will it be better than the previous incarnations and finally gives justice to the game or will it still be a steaming pile of dung?

Synopsis:

The Umbrella Corporation's deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. The human race's last and only hope, Alice (Milla Jovovich), awakens in the heart of Umbrella's most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex. Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak; a chase that takes her from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow, culminating in a mind-blowing revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true. Aided by newfound allies and familiar friends, Alice must fight to survive long enough to escape a hostile world on the brink of oblivion. The countdown has begun.

Story:
Still uses the previous formula but this time make it more blander and boring. Paul W.S. Anderson doesn't know what he's doing, this movie does not even have a dynamism in it's story-telling but I have to admit though, I loved the opening sequence bu it goes downhill from their.

Action:
This is the only aspect of the film that was good, but it was still NOT ENOUGH to save it from sucking major ass.

Acting:
What the flying f*** are these "actors" doing?! They can't even act their way out of a paper bag! The only person who really did good was Kevin Durand and they just wasted his character. Sienna Guillory was also not bad but the same as Durand's, why waste her character?! She was awesome! I also liked Shawn Roberts as Wesker but he basically only had like 10 minutes of screen time. Onto the others, f*ck you take a lesson class, Johann Urb was a horrible choice as Leon and Milla Jovovich is getting worse and worse. Their was a scene where they were exchanging lines and I honestly felt like two woods were talking. It was THAT HORRIBLE.

Sound:
Did not really mind it. It emphasized the jump scares though.

Visual FX:
The effects were good and it helped the action scenes to be much better.

Cinematography:
Mehhhhhhhhhhhh

Direction:

F*** YOU PAUL W.S. ANDERSON.

Overall:
Definitely not an improvement. However the action scenes were good enough and the jump scares somehow worked. This movie is all style and NO SUBSTANCE. Mr. Paul W.S. Anderson, please leave this franchise alone and please stop making movies. I call reboot for this franchise! 2/5 for me.

P.S.:
Thank God my girlfriend didn't hate me after this. Being with her while watching this made it good enough.

  2. And to think, all these Resident Evil movies came to be because Capcom fired George A. Romero before he could direct the first RE film.
